CNBC's Rick Santeli joins 'Squawk on the Street' with the latest economic data to cross the tape.

The Chicago Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) for August registered at 41.5, a figure significantly below the expansion threshold of 50 and lower than market expectations. This reading marks the 21st consecutive month that the index has stayed in contraction territory, with the last expansionary reading occurring in December 2023. 

The latest figure is only slightly above June's low of 40.4, suggesting ongoing weakness in the Chicago area's manufacturing sector. Market participants are also awaiting additional economic data, including the University of Michigan's final sentiment readings and updates on key inflation gauges.
