Chicago recognized International Overdose Awareness Day by installing multiple Narcan newsstands in the Uptown neighborhood this week.

Chicago has launched a new initiative in the Uptown neighborhood by installing Narcan newsstands, providing free access to the opioid overdose reversal drug. Four newsstands are now operational, hosted by community organizations including Nourishing Hope, Cornerstone Community Shelter, ICA Building, and the Department of Family and Supportive Services. 

These newsstands are the only ones in the city funded by the Department of Public Health. Narcan is also available at several county courthouses, hospitals, and public libraries, expanding access to this life-saving medication.

International Overdose Awareness Days at the end of the week. Chicago is marking the day early with a new effort to keep people safe. Terrence is back with what was just installed in the Uptown neighborhood. Of course, Narcan is the drug that reverses an overdose, an opioid overdose to be specific, and now that life-saving medication will be available for anyone who needs it in the 46th Ward. Four of these Narcan newsstands are in service now. They're hosted by four community-based organizations, Nourishing Hope, Cornerstone Community Shelter, ICA Building, and the Department of Family and Supportive Services. These are the only newsstands in the city that are funded by the Department of Public Health. You can also get Narcan in your machines at several county courthouses, at your hospital, and several public libraries as well have the drug on hand.
