Several individuals, including a flower vendor, have been detained, prompting community organizers to provide support and verify ICE sightings to help reduce fear.

Local events, such as Mexican Independence Day celebrations, have been postponed in some neighborhoods to protect residents. While some officials welcome the enforcement, citing crime and resource concerns, others highlight the widespread fear among both documented and undocumented immigrants. The Department of Homeland Security states the operation targets criminals, and the increased enforcement is expected to continue for several weeks.

We get a tip from the hotline or if we see something on social media, and our responsibility is to check out if it really is an ICE sighting. This is our first defense to combat fear in the community. This woman's husband is undocumented. She's so fearful, she asked us not to show her face. Him telling me that if I don't come home or don't make it home, he's like, don't worry, you're strong. Southside neighborhoods targeted by ICE are noticeably quiet, and community organizers say they have postponed Mexican Independence Day events to protect people. They are targeting everyone. If you look brown, they are targeting you. It does not matter your status. DHS says it's targeting criminals and named this operation in honor of Katie Abraham, who was killed in a drunk driving hit and run. In announcing it, the agency released this interview with her parents. Katie was killed by someone who really could have been vetted and not been in this country, and she would be here with us today. In one of Chicago's safest wards, Alderman Anthony Napolitano welcomes the ICE enforcement. Not only do we have crime rates that increase because of the illegal aliens, we've also had money that's being allocated that could have gone to other tax resources. Do you understand the fear that is driving through some of these communities where these enforcements are taking place? You'd have to be a knucklehead not to understand it, but at the same time, do you understand the fears that people have with this mass wave of illegals that have come through our city, our state, and our country?
