Cedar Beach in Gilgo, New York, is still experiencing significant flooding more than a week after Hurricane Erin struck the area. The flooding has left the popular volleyball courts submerged, disrupting games and affecting local businesses, including a well-known beachside restaurant.

Although the water has receded enough for people to access the beach and swim in the ocean, visitors must still navigate around flooded areas. Local business owners report that the flooding, which occurs annually but was worsened by the hurricane, has led to a decline in customers. However, the beach and its amenities, including the restaurant, are now open to the public.

It is affecting those who want to come here and play volleyball. For those who aren't familiar with the beach here, these volleyball carts, there are many of them are a staple here at Cedar Beach, and this is all because of Aaron for almost two weeks now. There have been no games were told the water at one point behind me was three ft deep and it actually came up past the volleyball courts up this way here, past the playground, past the swings and beyond. Now, those wanting to come hang at the beach can they just have to make their way around the water to get down to the ocean. We just talked to the assistant manager of the salt check here, which is a popular restaurant at Cedar. Take a listen. Well, it started two Tuesdays ago. The waves breached the top of the sand there and then the water just came in and started flooding and this elevation is lower. So once it gets in here, it stays in here. Volleyball was hurt because all their games got canceled and hopefully this week they're going to start back up and finish this season. Mhm. Now that was Gary Hapik. He said flooding actually does happen here every year. Obviously it wasn't good for business. And if you can remember for days, people weren't allowed in the ocean. So even when the restaurant was open, not many people were coming down here to the beach. But the good news is the sun is out today. People can swim in the ocean and the salt check that popular restaurant here is open all day and there will be live music later on.
