Beekeepers across the U.S. are sounding the alarm, saying honeybees are dying at an “unprecedented” and “catastrophic” rate.

Commercial beekeepers in the United States have reported a 62% loss of their honeybee populations between June 2024 and March of the following year, marking the most significant decline ever recorded. This sharp decrease could lead to increased grocery prices, as honeybees are essential for pollinating 75% of food crops, including fruits and vegetables such as almonds, apples, and melons.

The cause of the loss, which amounts to an estimated 1.6 million bee colonies, remains uncertain. Scientists are currently investigating several possible factors, including parasites, pesticide exposure, habitat loss, and the effects of extreme weather conditions.
