The arson is believed to have been a targeted message for Bilal Alamuddin, a former resident who was paroled in 2022 after serving time for drug and gun offences.

Neighbours acted quickly to alert the family and protect nearby property, while police searched the scene for evidence. No injuries were reported, but the property remains damaged and the identities of the suspects are still unknown.

Just before 1am in Toon Gabby, two hooded figures with a message. One uses a jerry can to douse a car in petrol before he lights it up. Within a second, the SUV is swallowed by flames, threatening the family home. It was so huge. So huge. The pair made sure to capture their efforts with videos that were later posted on social media. They fled as soon as their work was done and it was left to a neighbour to try and extinguish the blaze. As his brother-in-law was forced into quick action to protect their car, Appukutty broke the home's window in his attempts to wake the family inside. It's believed the men were targeting Bilal Alamuddin, and a social media page claimed to have received a message from the group telling him to stop hiding. While it's understood that Bilal had once lived at this address, neighbours say they haven't seen him in years. He had been serving time behind bars for drug and gun offences before he was paroled in 2022. Police spent the morning searching the car wreck and scorched house for any trace of the culprits, whose identities remain unknown. Residents were hurt in the arsonist's attack, but today their property still bears the marks of their message. Hannah Stewart, 10 News.
