Good morning. We are inside of the Westside Food Bank now in Santa Monica because food banks all across Southern California have seen an increase in demand due to the government shutdown. You can see they have pallets upon pallets of food inside of here. They've also been working hard to build more boxes as well with that need. Federal food assistance for millions of Americans including 5.5 million Californians was paused because of the shutdown that started in October. Just yesterday after two judges issued rulings requiring the government to keep the program running, the Trump administration announced it will be partially funding SNAP benefits for November. The plan is for the government to use an emergency fund with 4.65 billion to cover half of the normal benefits. It's not clear exactly how much SNAP recipients will receive or how quickly they will see the money show up in their accounts. The Westside Food Bank in Santa Monica is seeing an influx of people in need. Because of the SNAP delay in the benefits we've seen a great demand in all of our distributions. We have a lot of folks that show up that are just waiting waiting to hear and in between time we're trying to fill that gap. You know we've seen an increase from where we're doing 100 to 110 to jumps up to about 150. And here are some resources for SNAP recipients. The LA Dream Center is offering three free meals every day and free groceries at their kitchen in Echo Park. Hundreds of participating Carl's Juniors locations under one franchise group are providing a kid's hamburger, fries and a drink for just $1 to SNAP recipients. You can also visit Feeding America for a list of food banks in your area and Westside Food Bank here in Santa Monica is also asking for donations and volunteers to help during this critical time. I'll send it back to you. All right Cocoa thank you. Now the government shutdown is having a major impact on air travel and it could get much worse as we head into the Thanksgiving season. The prolonged shutdown has led to a spike in flight delays for more than three million passengers so far due to a high number of absences in air traffic controllers with many of them taking up second jobs to cope. The US Travel Association sent a letter to Congress urging lawmakers to reopen the government before the holiday rush. There a point from the controllers that I've spoke with said listen a lot of them can deal with missing one paycheck but a lot can't but many of them can. None of them can miss two paychecks. Around 20 million people flew Thanksgiving week last year but the Travel Association says surveys show more than half of Americans are reconsidering their travel plans because of the shutdown. You worry about the TSA agents and the air traffic controllers and there's some airports now where they actually have like donation drives so that raising funds yeah or food to bring them food and things like that because they can't get groceries right now. Yeah it's just terrible yeah.
