Belgian Foreign Minister Maxine Prévot has told Euronews that the EU's foreign policy is "collapsing" due to member states' inability to sanction Israel.

Belgian Foreign Minister Maxime Prévost has expressed concern over the European Union's foreign policy credibility regarding the conflict in Gaza. In an interview, Prévost attributed the EU's lack of unified action to member states blocking initiatives and called on other countries to join Belgium in recognizing a Palestinian state at the United Nations General Assembly.

Prévost emphasized that recognition should not be seen as a reward for Hamas, outlining Belgium's conditions, including the exclusion of the group from any future Palestinian government. He also accused Israel of violating international and humanitarian law in Gaza, describing the situation as inhuman and unacceptable, particularly highlighting the impact on civilians.

Belgian Foreign Minister: EU credibility on the line over Gaza

Belgian Foreign Minister Maxime Prévost thinks the credibility of the EU foreign policy is falling apart over Israel. He says it is the fault of the member states blocking action. In an interview with Euronews, he invited other countries to follow Belgium's will to recognize the state of Palestine during the General Assembly of the United Nations. So, the lines are moving and maybe we will be able to achieve extra results. I think it is important also for the credibility of the European foreign policy. Frankly speaking, this credibility of the current foreign policy is collapsing. Prévost insisted that recognizing a Palestinian state should not be seen as a reward for Hamas and stressed that Belgium has set two clear conditions, including the exclusion of the terrorist organization from the future government of Palestine, even if these conditions are far from being settled. He emphasized the symbolism is important. Yes, this is important. It's the best way to say with all the countries to Israel, stop the extension of the settlements. Stop the way you are acting with really a lot of violation of international law and especially humanitarian law. The Belgian minister stated that war crimes are being committed in Gaza, despite the Israeli government denying it. The context on the ground is really inhuman, especially in Gaza, when children, women, older people and many citizens are starving. It's completely unacceptable. And I remind to the Israeli government that cutting off any humanitarian hand is a war crime.
