Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass has officially endorsed former Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa in his campaign for California governor. The announcement was made during a press conference, where Bass highlighted her decades-long friendship and professional collaboration with Villaraigosa. 

Villaraigosa, who is joining a crowded field of candidates for the 2026 gubernatorial race, expressed his commitment to working with city leaders across California. Both Bass and the Los Angeles Sentinel publicly backed Villaraigosa, who emphasized his experience in balancing budgets and leading the city during his previous terms as mayor.

Of course, Governor Gavin Newsom is termed out. Now you see Antonio via Rigoza bilingual, of course, addressing the media and answering questions both in and out of the press conference. The mayor of Los Angeles, Karen Bass, has been running for about 52 years, and the mayor said that her decision was made the very same day that via Rigoza announced he was going to be a candidate, but she waited to make it formal. She said she has working relationships with almost all of the other candidates, but she has worked very many very long with via Rigoza. And this is the first rodeo. I've been here before. I've gotten on the horse and I've gotten thrown off and I've gotten back on again. And you're going to see a man who's going to roll up his sleeves and work with everybody.
