An explosion at a fireworks factory in Suphanburi province, central Thailand, has killed at least nine people, according to local officials. Two others were taken to hospital in critical condition, and the number of missing individuals is not yet clear. 

Authorities have confirmed that the building was used for fireworks production, but the cause of the explosion remains under investigation. The incident follows a similar explosion in the same area earlier in the year, which resulted in around 20 fatalities.

At least nine people have been killed in an explosion at a fireworks factory in central Thailand, local officials said on Wednesday. The blast occurred in Suphanburi province, about 95 kilometres north of Bangkok, in the heart of Thailand's central rice-growing region. According to the Sameko Suphanburi Rescue Foundation, nine people were confirmed dead, while two others were taken to the hospital in critical condition. The number of people missing was not immediately clear. Shattered wooden buildings and green rice fields led to the scene of the explosion. Authorities said the building was used to produce fireworks, but the cause of the explosion was yet to be determined. A similar incident in the same area in January 2024 killed around 20 people.
