Firefighters are battling several wildfires in Greece as a scorching heatwave wreaks havoc across southern Europe. More than 152 new fires have broken out across Greece and thousands of people have been evacuated.

That includes a man who was killed while battling flames in Castilla y León and an employee of an equestrian centre died after suffering severe burns in a fire just north of Madrid. That blaze began on Monday evening and by Tuesday some evacuees were able to return to their homes and assess the damage. There's a lot of burnt areas so you can see that it spread very quickly. We left when we realised we had to and then everyone was evacuated. It comes as Spain, like other parts of southern Europe, is experiencing a heat wave. On Tuesday temperatures surpassed 40 degrees Celsius in some regions with minimal rainfall and windy conditions.

At least 123 people have been killed in 24 hours, according to Gaza's Health Ministry. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says people will be given the opportunity to leave Gaza before a planned ground offensive, but no one is being pushed out.
