A second major crane collapse has taken place in Thailand within a day, with both incidents linked to the same construction company. The latest accident resulted in severe damage to railway carriages, with one carriage split in half and another having its roof torn off. 

Authorities, including forensic police and the State Railway of Thailand, are investigating the scene and gathering evidence. The high number of victims and the recurrence of such accidents have raised concerns about safety standards and accountability in the country's construction sector.

Commuters on one of Bangkok's main highways, a major road construction overhead. Suddenly, and without warning, the road above collapses. To have one such disaster in 24 hours might be bad luck. To have two involving the same construction company, that's something else. Three hours drive to the east at the site of Wednesday's accident, the sense of urgency had gone. Clear up teams shifting the wreckage off the track so travel can resume. And a clearer picture of the accident starting to emerge. Now the emergency vehicles are gone and the site has been cleared, you can see just how serious this accident was. One railway carriage with its roof pretty much ripped clean off to the point where you can see the seats where passengers were sitting inside. But perhaps more incredibly, the other one, which has literally been ripped in half. The other half is 100 metres down the track. The high number of victims and the manner of their deaths will demand a high-profile investigation. That's already underway with forensic police and criminal investigators taking measurements at the scene. But concerned too that accidents like this are all too common in Thailand and those responsible rarely face justice. Various departments, including investigators, are gathering evidence. This morning, the State Railway of Thailand, the contractors of construction and the forensics team will inspect the site to look for any remaining evidence and clues. Stories too starting to emerge of some of those that died. The football fans that had travelled up from the deep south to support their team.
