The child, known as KJ, was picked up from daycare by a state worker for a supervised visit with his father, but was not returned to daycare immediately afterward.

Instead, the state worker reportedly ran personal errands with KJ still in the backseat, resulting in the child's death. The Birmingham Police Department is currently investigating the incident.
