Lawmakers and industry experts are highlighting the need for modernized safety systems, with President Trump's bill allocating over $12 billion for aviation upgrades, though experts estimate a full overhaul could require up to $31 billion. 

In addition to funding, concerns remain about outdated technology and ongoing air traffic controller shortages, which may take several years to resolve. Legislative proposals include mandating advanced plane tracking technology and improving airport infrastructure to reduce the risk of future incidents.

And it's probably going to take about two or three years to get back to where we need to go. On Tuesday, Senator Ted Cruz joined the nation's transportation leaders to announce even more plans to reform the nation's skies, including introducing legislation to mandate better plane tracking technology to avoid collisions. This technology allows aircraft to broadcast their positions and to receive positions of others in real time. As far as additional changes go, aviation experts tell the Scripps News group that improved airport infrastructure like better runways as well as more efficient use of airspace are all being looked at by stakeholders as well, so that the 45,000 daily flights in the U.
