They will get back pay at some point, but many controllers are starting to miss work, leading to delays and ground stops. Normally, flight delays due to staffing shortages hover around 5%, but on Sunday, that number was 44%, and Monday, it was 24%. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy met with air traffic controllers today. They need to show up for work. They do really important work for our country, and they need to show up. But I'm not going to lie to anybody to not say that they're not feeling the stress. And this evening, the FAA released a statement that reads in part, quote, we will continue to operate a safe system, even if that means slowing down operations.
