Animal advocates in Las Vegas are advancing efforts to ban the sale of dogs and cats in pet stores. City officials are amending a proposed ordinance, originally targeting only new pet stores, to eventually include all pet stores. The revised ordinance is expected to be discussed by the city council, with a potential three-year compliance period for existing businesses. If passed, Las Vegas would join Clark County and North Las Vegas in implementing a total ban. Advocates argue that pet stores can continue to thrive by focusing on supplies and services rather than animal sales.

In a separate development, union leaders are promoting Assembly Bill 238, which aims to attract film projects and jobs to Nevada through tax credits. The bill previously passed the Assembly but stalled in the Senate, and its future remains uncertain.

AND THAT'S BECAUSE CITY OFFICIALS ARE AMENDING THE LANGUAGE TO EVENTUALLY BAN THE SALE OF THOSE PETS IN ALL PET STORES, NOT JUST NEWLY LICENSED ONES. The decision wouldn't take effect for another three years, giving existing stores time to get in compliance. And a full ban is exactly what animal advocates have been pushing for. TODAY, UNION LEADERS ARE HOSTING A TOWN HALL THAT'S ALL ABOUT BRINGING BIGGER FILM PROJECTS AND MORE JOBS TO THE STATE. THE FOCUS IS ON ASSEMBLY BILL 238, ALSO KNOWN AS THE NEVADA STUDIO INFRASTRUCTURE JOBS AND WORKFORCE TRAINING ACT. IT WOULD OFFER UP TO 95 MILLION DOLLARS IN TAX CREDITS TO FILM STUDIOS THAT SET UP SHOP HERE IN NEVADA. THE BILL BARELY PASSED THE ASSEMBLY THE LAST SESSION AND THEN STALLED OUT IN THE SENATE ON THE FINAL DAY. BUT THE PUSH IS FAR FROM OVER FOR SUPPORTERS OF THIS MEASURE.
