Well, Yelp reports that there is a 350% increase in searches for adult summer camps this year as people look for community and nostalgia. And as Nancy Chen shows us, plenty of both can be found at camps around the country. With zip lines, archery, and bunking up in log cabins, there are all the hallmarks of your child's favorite summer camp, except this one is for the grownups. Welcome to summer at Club Getaway in Kent, Connecticut, where campers 21 and up come together every weekend to meet new friends and be a kid again. What are you looking forward to most? Meeting some people in like kickball or- Like tug of war, something like that. Shamia Briscoe is one of many who came to camp to leave all her responsibility behind and instead bring out her inner child. The nostalgia of it, right? Like I did overnight camps when I was younger and I remember like going out on the water, going rock climbing, and I was like, why not do that with some alcohol? See, what's really cool is that all the activities are planned for youth. All right, I guess we're doing this thing. Activities that aren't always for the fan of hearts. Is this safe? Yeah. I don't like this that much. Hang on. Ooh, yeah. I don't remember actually agreeing to do this. All right. Hi. Woo! Hey, I was good. Sorry to scream. So this is where it starts, right here. First activity that we're gonna do is our welcome to camp party. David Schreiber is the camp's owner. Why do you think people come here? I think people come here for an experience. They wanna meet new people. They wanna try different things and feel part of a community, even just for a short period of time. Open to children during the week, Club Getaway has been welcoming adults for nearly 50 years, but it wasn't until recently that programs doubled as interest spiked. Do you find that the popularity of summer camps for adults right now is tied to people wanting to seek a simpler time? Yes, 100%. You know, things are complicated right now. There is a simplicity that comes here, right? There's sort of a depth in the superficiality of just laughing and meeting people and doing silly, zany things. That sense of escape is helping fuel interest in adult summer camps from California to Connecticut, with the average price tag around $800 for a weekend away. It comes as 66% of workers, an all-time high, report feeling burnout, along with rising levels of loneliness. It's hard to find friends as an adult, so the fact that we can connect as adults still and just enjoy each other without our phones and just hanging out, I think it means a lot. And without kids. Yeah, without kids. Without kids. Because here, only one thing matters for the weekend. Yay! Being a happy camper. Woo! You bet! That's my first time, y'all! I can't stand that. You know what I'm saying? And if you are looking to book your own weekend, some advice we got was to consider the age range of other campers. Also think about what you want in terms of experience, whether it's more about making connections and having fun or one that's activity-specific, like a wellness or surfing camp. But there's something really fun and intentional about saying, I am just going to unplug this weekend and have a good time. So we were laughing because we're like, there's gotta be booze. This morning when we came in, we're like, there's gotta be booze at this camp, right? Oh, yes. The other thing is, how many people are there? Oh, yes, there is plenty of booze. And how many are married or single? Oh. No, I did not go around asking people if they were married or single, but let's just say the single people there seemed like they were having a good time. Oh, that's what I thought. So some single people had a bunch of booze and a lake and a fire, boom. It's about community, Vlad. It's about building a community. Yes, community. But boom, boom, what does that mean, Vlad? I mean, combustible, anything, anything can happen. Making friends. There you go. Making friends. Connections, as Nancy said. Making friends with benefits.
