According to spokesperson Thiago Avila, the incident resulted in damage to the lead boat's communication systems and involved dangerous maneuvers by the vessels.

Despite the disruption, the flotilla remains committed to reaching Gaza and breaking the Israeli naval blockade. The incident took place as the conflict in Gaza continues, with recent reports from the Gaza Health Ministry citing over 66,000 deaths in the nearly two-year offensive. The event also coincides with a new U.S. ceasefire proposal, which includes disbanding Hamas, releasing hostages, and appointing a provisional oversight government.

The Global Sumud Flotilla says it was approached by a number of unidentified vessels in the early hours of Wednesday who intimidated and attacked their fleet. Brazilian activist Thiago Avila, one of the flotilla's main spokespeople, says the ships were Israeli military vessels. He said the ships had attacked the fleet, causing damage to some of the lead boat's communication systems. He also accused the vessels of performing dangerous maneuvers. Earlier, the group announced that it was only 120 nautical miles, approximately 222 kilometers, off Gaza's shores. They stressed that despite the early morning incident, they remained dedicated and committed to reaching Gaza and breaking the Israeli naval siege of the enclave. It comes as Israel's assault on Gaza continues to intensify, as IDF forces carry on with their ground operations in the north of the Strip. The Gaza Health Ministry says 42 people were killed in Tuesday attacks, bringing the total death figures now to just over 66,000 in the almost two-year offensive. It also comes amid a U.S. ceasefire proposal presented by Donald Trump on Monday, which he says only awaits Hamas' approval. The deal would see the Gaza-based group's disbandment, the release of all remaining hostages, and the appointment of a provisional oversight government, led by former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair.
