Despite the incident, the flotilla remains committed to its mission. The event coincides with intensified Israeli military operations in Gaza, where the local health ministry reports over 66,000 deaths in nearly two years of conflict. Additionally, a U.S.-backed ceasefire proposal has been presented, involving the disbandment of Hamas, the release of hostages, and provisional governance led by former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair.

The Global Sumud Flotilla says it was approached by a number of unidentified vessels in the early hours of Wednesday who intimidated and attacked their fleet. It comes as Israel's assault on Gaza continues to intensify, as IDF forces carry on with their ground operations in the north of the Strip. The Gaza Health Ministry says 42 people were killed in Tuesday attacks, bringing the total death figures now to just over 66,000 in the almost two-year offensive. It also comes amid a U.S. ceasefire proposal presented by Donald Trump on Monday, which he says only awaits Hamas' approval. The deal would see the Gaza-based group's disbandment, the release of all remaining hostages, and the appointment of a provisional oversight government, led by former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair.
