Abortion is a top issue in 2024 United States election

Less than two weeks before the U.S. election, the timing of the premiere left nothing to chance. Jennifer Lawrence was in L.A. to present her latest film co-produced with Hillary Clinton, Zurofsky vs. Texas, a harrowing documentary that follows three women's battle against anti-abortion laws. Despite learning their pregnancies weren't viable due to medical issues, they were repeatedly turned away by doctors after the Supreme Court overturned federal protection for abortion access. The stories that these women tell is incredibly important. They were all denied abortion care and they all needed it in emergency medical situations. Amanda Zurofsky, Samantha Cassiano and Austin Dennard all agreed to let cameras follow them through hospitals, courtrooms and funerals as they came to terms with their trauma and mounted a series of legal challenges against the state of Texas. A way for the directors to help reshape the discourse around abortion ahead of the November 5th election. I think these women are reframing the way we think about abortion, what abortion even is, who needs abortions. And so to have them speak out, it means the world because it's shifting the conversation about abortion at a really crucial time in the country. The question of women's reproductive rights has taken center stage in the U.S. presidential campaign. Kamala Harris has repeatedly criticized Donald Trump's appointment of three conservative Supreme Court judges which ultimately led to the reversal of Roe vs. Wade, eliminating the constitutional right to abortion.
