Meet France's mini motorcycle-car hybrid, combining the manoeuvrability of a motorcycle with the cargo space of a car.

French company AE Motion has developed a microcar that merges the maneuverability of a motorcycle with the safety and storage capacity of a car. The vehicle, though equipped with four wheels, can lean into turns like a motorcycle and is narrow enough to split lanes in traffic. It includes seat belts, a foldable second seat, and crash boxes for safety, with doors that open vertically.

Powered by both a fixed and a swappable battery, the microcar offers a maximum range of 124 miles and a top speed of 71 miles per hour. Comparable in range to some entry-level electric cars, it requires a standard French car driving permit. AE Motion has not yet provided details on pricing, availability, or international sales.

A 'microcar' made for lane-splitting like a motorcycle

For all those times you're stuck in traffic jealously watching motorcycle drivers weaving between the jammed up cars, French company AE Motion has made this micro car in the hopes of combining the small size and maneuverability of a motorcycle with the cargo space and safety features of a traditional car. Despite its four wheel design, the micro car can lean into turns like a traditional motorcycle, more than 35 degrees according to AE Motion. Inside there's seat belts like a car, for safety, and a second seat for a passenger to sit behind the driver, motorcycle style. The second seat folds away to open up trunk space for cargo. Two doors, one on each side, open vertically, and crash boxes in the front and back of the vehicle help absorb the energy of any potential impacts. At roughly 31 inches wide, the micro car is comparable to a motorcycle in size, and probably way easier to park than a car. An animation from AE Motion also shows the vehicle lane splitting like a motorcycle, but the company says it's driven by a handlebar with the same dynamics as a two-wheeler. It's got a top speed of 71 miles per hour, which definitely makes it much slower than the fastest production motorcycles, both gas powered and electric, which top out at over 200 miles per hour. The micro car is powered by a fixed battery with a max range of 124 miles, and a swappable battery with a range of 43 miles, making it competitive with mid-range electric motorcycles, and comparable to the base range of a 2025 Nissan Leaf or Fiat 500e electric car, which can get approximately 149 miles of range. As far as repairability goes, AE Motion says the micro car is made up of sub-assemblies that can be easily repaired by an AE Motion authorized garage. You'll need a B permit to drive, which is France's driver's license for passenger cars, not their A permit, which is for motorcycles. We reached out to AE Motion for more details on when exactly their vehicle will start being available to drivers, how much it will cost, and whether it will be available anywhere other than its home country, France. However, as of this recording, they have not responded.
