An 87-year-old man has been granted bail after being arrested for allegedly touching schoolchildren through the fence of a Sydney primary school.

Antonio Cadeto, aged 87, was arrested outside Forest Lodge Public School following allegations that he inappropriately touched multiple schoolchildren through the school fence. Court proceedings revealed claims that Cadeto pinched one of the girls and made concerning remarks to another child. 

After spending a night in police custody, Cadeto was granted bail with strict conditions, including restrictions on approaching schools. The Department of Education has communicated with parents and carers, offering support to students and families affected by the incident.

Now, Mr Cadeto, we heard in court today, it is alleged that he gave one of the girls a hard pinch while another schoolchild told police she overheard the 87-year-old say, come with me so I can take you away. Now, Mr Cadeto was in police custody overnight, but he has been granted bail this afternoon. We're right now waiting for him to be released from police custody. He does have strict bail conditions, and those are that he can't go within 500 metres of Forest Lodge Public School. He can't go within 100 metres of any other school. We have heard from the Department of Education as well, they've said that they have been communicating with carers and parents, and also that students and families are being offered support. Sandra.
