Representatives from 35 countries convened in Paris to discuss security guarantees for Ukraine, with U.S. President Donald Trump participating remotely. French President Emmanuel Macron announced that 26 nations have pledged to support Ukraine after the conflict by providing troops or equipment, though these forces will serve in deterrence roles rather than on the front lines and only after a ceasefire is established.

Macron emphasized that support for Ukraine should be unlimited to prevent future aggression from Russia. An official military planning document has been created, and countries such as Germany, Italy, and Poland, previously hesitant, have now agreed to participate. Leaders also agreed to introduce further sanctions with the U.S. if Russia continues to reject peace negotiations.

With no peace deal in sight, Kiev's allies have gathered on Thursday in Paris to discuss security guarantees, with U.S. President Donald Trump dialing in. French President Emmanuel Macron said that 35 nations are now part of the so-called coalition of the willing, and 26 of them have pledged to help Ukraine postwar by sending either troops or equipment. Not on the front lines, he said, but in deterrence roles on land, at sea or in the air, once a ceasefire is reached. Macron also insisted that there should be no limit to the support that Ukraine receives, not just to defend itself, but to also stop Russia from ever striking again. He also confirmed that this is no longer just talk. There's now an official military planning document. And Germany, Italy and Poland, once skeptical of this whole idea, have also pledged to participate. But the French leader refused to reveal any more details, saying that he refuses to hand Russia any strategic information. And finally, the leaders have also agreed to launch more sanctions along with the U.S. if Moscow keeps rejecting any peace deal.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is wrapping up a two-day trip to Latin America. It comes as the countries in the region watch the Trump administration step up military activity in the area, to combat drug trafficking and illegal migration.
