Moscow rejected calls for a Christmas truce. That hasn't stopped people in Kyiv from putting on a festive display, despite the ongoing attacks and the power outages. We have light for three hours and I think about what to cook, how to dress, what to wash for tomorrow. Although Ukraine, like Russia, is predominantly orthodox, in 2023 it switched the official celebration of Christmas to December 25th, part of an official campaign to distance itself from Russian influence and traditions.
