So I want someone to explain to me why they didn't call me. Most delayed diagnoses were linked to the Virgen del Rosio Hospital, where follow-up protocols failed. The slew of cases sparked protests, legal claims, and led to the resignation of the regional health chief. It's unclear if the lapses were due to human error or a system's failure. Breast Cancer Association Amama has warned of screening programme flaws since 2021, and suspects more cases are yet to be uncovered, potentially affecting between 3,000 and 6,000 women. Andalusian authorities say they have now implemented new guidelines on cancer screenings. Here is Juan Manuel Moreno Bonilla, head of the Andalusia regional government. The women who, as you know, had just over 2,000 inconclusive reports have all been called, and they all have an appointment for a mammogram and ultrasound before November 30th, according to what the regional Ministry of Health itself has told me this morning when I asked. Breast cancer is the most common malignant tumour among women in Europe. Around 1.3 million women participate in Andalusia's screening programme, with 400,000 mammograms conducted annually. Last year, the programme diagnosed approximately 1,800 women with breast cancer.
