Rescue teams responded quickly to free trapped passengers, and survivors with minor injuries were taken to a local community center for treatment. Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash, which remains unclear, as Spain's transportation minister described the accident as a mystery.

Spain's high-speed rail network is the largest in Europe and a popular means of travel. The Spanish transportation minister said the accident is a mystery.
