A wintry weather system has brought hazardous driving conditions and significant snowfall to the Northeast, with areas in New York, Ohio, and Pennsylvania reporting up to nine inches of snow. Plows have been active, and gusty winds of 30-40 mph are affecting major cities such as New York and Boston, leading to potential minor travel delays and challenges for outdoor decorations.

Temperatures across the region are below historical averages, with wind chills making it feel even colder. While Saturday is expected to be sunnier and suitable for outdoor activities, rain is forecast to return on Sunday, with possible icy conditions in West Virginia and snow in New England's higher elevations.

White-knuckle driving out there last night. This is not fun. We've all experienced it if you live in the northern U.S. at some point. The good news is that this lake effect snow will be fading, at least for this episode. I really do not like driving in snow and you know a lot of people with it intensifying like Thanksgiving Day across the northeast parts of the Buckeye State and the plows they were out all night as early risers took advantage of some of those Black Friday deals. The plows are starting to really ramp up. We'll certainly be seeing a lot of those next week. Absolutely. So we could take you to New York City here and overall actually I think I have this is Cleveland. Yes, Cleveland rocks. It does and you know visibility looks pretty good right now Ari, but look at those waves way off in the distance. Yeah, oh yeah, okay. I see those. Yeah, I couldn't see if like tell if that was snow but I think we're seeing maybe like a combination of some of those white caps and some snow on the bellies of the birds. They're going all over the place. They're lucky they were pardoned for Thanksgiving and they're like you know what, I'm so glad I didn't grow up to be a turkey. All right, let's take you into those top snow reports here. Northeast Ohio certainly making the list. Yorkshire, New York, Tupper Lake, New York into the upper eight, nine inches into Chagrin Falls, Ohio over eight inches of snow. Perrysburg, New York seven and a half and Elgin, Pennsylvania seven inches of snow. So a nice thump for Thanksgiving day and it's still been coming on down. You look back over the last couple of hours is a downwind of Lake Ontario especially, but it looks like another band here may make its way back over Lake Erie and send some more snow back into western New York. So skiing was on your mind for the Thanksgiving weekend here upon us. Certainly some fresh snow and cold enough conditions, but we will be watching rain returning on Sunday that may impact some outdoor plans. Some of these bands are extensive enough to send some flurries back into Boston and New York City this afternoon. Otherwise gusty winds will continue to howl here 30 to 40 miles per hour. If you pick today to hang up the holiday decorations, you should have done it earlier in November, right? Bernie and I had been talking about that early into the month. I know it was like you know several days or several weeks before the Christmas season here, but I'm just happy ours is done. Don't want to be out in these winter conditions here with the wind really whipping and the snow falling for many. High temperatures below the historical average. We're only 33 today in Pittsburgh, 38 in Albany, 36 in Burlington. A very winter feel to this final Friday of November. Temperatures along the I-95 corridor will make it to the 40s, but actually the real field temperatures will be into the 30s thanks to this gusty wind. 30 to 40 miles per hour in New York City and Boston. In an airport like JFK, that may be just enough to cause some minor delays, especially as the volume picks up here for maybe some travelers by this afternoon. Any unsecured objects will also be blowing around. We have like a forklift inflatable Santa as I left work this morning. I didn't really see much of that. Not sure if there was a tear or something, but the wind can certainly be tough for those inflatable decorations, especially if you live in a pretty windy area. Chillier, sunnier tomorrow. If you're bundled up, I don't think it's going to be all that bad to be outside. Small business Saturday. I think that this is actually pretty nice weather locally here. Again, you'll just want to be bundled up, especially if you're making your way out about town before the next round of snow moves in. And this is going to be a big story here across the Midwest. For the Northeast, it's mostly going to be rain and it's on Sunday. So Saturday is the pick of the weekend here with sunshine. It's still chilly and then temperatures come up a little bit on Sunday by the afternoon. So for most of us, this will be rain. We will watch a little bit of some icier concerns, especially down towards West Virginia and snow in the higher elevations across New England.
