The latest Grammy nominations feature Kendrick Lamar, Lady Gaga, and several other established artists, while Taylor Swift, Adele, and Beyonce are notably absent from the ballot due to not releasing eligible projects within the specified window. This absence has opened opportunities for new acts, including K-pop artists Rosé from Blackpink and the group K-pop Demon Hunters, who received their first nominations in major categories.

Additionally, three rap albums by Tyler, the Creator, Kendrick Lamar, and Clipse are nominated for Album of the Year, marking a first for the Grammys. The Recording Academy's ongoing efforts to diversify its voting membership are reflected in this year's nominations, which also include new talent such as Leon Thomas, the only Best New Artist nominee recognized in a major category. The winners will be announced at the 2026 Grammy Awards, broadcast live on CBS on February 1.

Why Kendrick Lamar has more Grammys nominations than Taylor Swift

Grammy nominations are in, and we've got the beat on all of your favorite bops. Okay, so let's go live to Michael Wood with the L.A. Times. Of course, I'm talking about Kendrick Lamar and Lady Gaga, so many people getting that call today. I'm pretty happy about it. What's your take? Yeah, look, a lot of Grammy faves here, a lot of traditional Grammy faves. Kendrick, Gaga, Chapel, Sabrina. But I think it's worth thinking about the fact that for the first time in, like, more than 20 years, you don't see Taylor, Adele, or Beyonce on the ballot. Now, that's just because they didn't release projects or, you know, Taylor's The Life of a Showgirl came out after the eligibility window, but the point is that leaves some room open for some new acts near the top of the ballot. So you see Rosé from the K-pop group Blackpink. She's in there with the song with Bruno Mars. You see the song Golden from K-pop Demon Hunters, the huge Netflix smash. These are the first times that artists from K-pop have been nominated in the big categories at the Grammys, which is an interesting thing. You see a lot of, you have three rap albums, an album of the year for the first time ever with Tyler, the creator, and Kendrick, and Clipse. So I think, you know, the Academy talks a lot about trying to diversify the voting membership and bring in younger people and a lot of artists of color. They've talked a lot about that. And so this might be the result of that, but I do think the Taylor-Beyonce-Adele thing is worth keeping in mind as well. Right, it really does open up some feel. My daughter loves that Rosé bop there. Also, any surprises this year? Because invariably somebody goes away mad or somebody says, why not? Sure, one thing, The Weeknd, you know, for years The Weeknd was not interested in the Grammys. He sort of said, the Grammys don't represent me. I don't want to take part in this. On this year's show, he came back. There was a big reconciliation. Harvey Mason, the CEO of the Recording Academy, introduced a big splashy performance. So you would have thought this was his year. Didn't show up. That's an interesting snub. Best new artist? Lot of new talent. Alex Warren, Somber, Lola Young. You know, best new artist is always, that's, you know, where the fresh talent is. I was struck, though, by only Leon Thomas in best new artist. He was the only one of the best new artist nominees who also got a nomination in one of the other big categories, record, song, album of the year. So, you know, I'm reading a lot of tea leaves here. It's what I do, but it's just sort of interesting to think about where that support is consolidated for these artists. All right, Michael Wood, it's great to touch base with you. And of course, Bad Bunny, we know he's going to play big in the sporting world in the coming months. So it's fun to see him as well. Thank you so much.
