Lawmakers and parents at the hearing expressed concerns about the adequacy of current safety measures and called for stronger legislation to protect children online. Today, the company called the whistleblower claims nonsense, adding they were picked specifically to craft a false narrative. Meta has been saying things like this for years. Senators Marsha Blackburn and Richard Blumenthal have been working for years to pass a bill to address kids' online safety, something Molex says is long overdue. Parents think that these platforms are safe, but they're not, and we deserve better. Meta says that it relies on parents to make sure their kids have an age-appropriate experience and points to parent-managed accounts for young users.
