The Powerball jackpot has grown to $1.3 billion, making it one of the largest in the game's history. While the grand prize attracts significant attention, much of the revenue from ticket sales is directed toward state programs, particularly education.

In Florida, for example, all lottery-generated funds are allocated to education, with over $49 billion contributed since the lottery's inception in 1988. Other states also use lottery proceeds to support education and various priorities determined by their legislatures. The funding benefits a range of educational institutions, including K-12 schools, colleges, universities, and vocational programs.

More than a billion dollars is up for grabs after nobody matched last night's Powerball numbers. The pot for tomorrow's drawing is the fifth largest in the game's history, sitting at a whopping $1.3 billion. But the money doesn't just go out to the grand prize winner. So joining me from Orlando, Florida is John F. Davis. He is the secretary of the Florida Lottery. John, thanks so much for being with us this morning. So let's talk quickly about the jackpot. It really isn't the only drawing. How much money is in the overall pool? Well, Brad, first and foremost, thank you for giving me this opportunity to be able to speak about the work that we do, not just here at the Florida Lottery, but around the country and our District of Columbia, as well as a couple of our territories. This is exciting for our players, of course. And as you mentioned, I think more importantly, it's important for us to continue to get the word out about the beneficiary, whether it's the Florida Lottery or any other lottery that's a participant in the jackpots across this country, it is important to realize that it is all about the beneficiaries. Here in the state of Florida, every, all of our money that we have that's generated is for education. And so we're excited about seeing this pot roll and to be able to have so many committed individuals, and as well as just having fun, playing these fun and exciting games. So we're really more importantly, just excited about the opportunity to be able to continue to fund our beneficiaries here in the state of Florida, as well as throughout this country. So, all right, let's talk about how much these state programs rely on lottery programs, like the Powerball, for example. I mean, here in Florida, I mean, we have, the Powerball has contributed more than 3 billion of the funds from the Powerball has been contributed to education. Since 1988, when we created the Florida Lottery, the voters here voted for the Florida Lottery, it's been 49 billion has gone to fund education. So we're excited about that. And around the country, in many other states, typically it's education and various other priorities that the legislature has decided that are important to the people in those states. But here in Florida, our governor, Governor DeSantis, as well as his legislature, continue to provide the tools and the resources that's needed to be able to help fund education. And we're just excited that we have the opportunity to play an intricate part and role in the funding of education. Our K through 12, our colleges and universities, as well as our vocational and technical schools do receive a significant amount of funding to help with education.
