In Africa, recognition of Palestinian statehood has been widespread for decades. Algeria was the first country to recognize Palestine following Yasser Arafat's 1988 declaration in Algiers. According to the World Population Review, 52 out of 54 African countries recognize Palestine, with Cameroon and Eritrea as the only exceptions, though both support a two-state solution. The African Union has also called for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, reinforcing the continent's general support for Palestinian statehood.
