Optus CEO Stephen Rue issued a public apology and extended condolences to the families affected. The company reported that around 600 customers in two states and the Northern Territory were potentially impacted, and welfare checks have been conducted. The Australian government has called the incident 'completely unacceptable' and announced a formal investigation.

The Australian government has labelled the failure as, quote, completely unacceptable and has vowed to investigate.
