The club has committed to a 15-year stay, but funding for the necessary improvements is not yet fully secured. Leichhardt Oval requires $50 million in upgrades, with $40 million already announced and the remaining $10 million still to be sourced. Campbelltown Council is seeking to redirect government grants from another project to cover its $50 million upgrade.

Meanwhile, the New South Wales Premier has declined to commit additional state funding for the projects. In contrast, Penrith's new $309 million stadium is already under construction, with demolition completed and the venue expected to open for the Panthers in 2027.

Only $40 million for Leichhardt was announced by Council, the federal and state governments last year. We're still looking for grant funding for the last $10 million. But if that doesn't materialise, then the Council will need to step in. While in Campbelltown, Council wants to use government grants that were provided for a different $30 million Sport and Health Centre of Excellence project. We obviously may just have to go back and update government of what we're doing with the grants. The Premier asked if he'd offer more state funding. Can you commit to that? No. There's been no funding promises or commitments. While the Tigers are seeking to shore up their suburban strongholds, a Crosstown rival is already watching their fully-funded fortress take shape.
