A childcare centre in Rose Hill, Western Sydney, was closed by authorities after 41 safety and compliance breaches were identified since 2023. Issues included a padlocked emergency exit, unlabelled chemicals in children's bathrooms, and inadequate health and medical documentation.

The closure, which affected 37 children, is the first under new powers given to the Early Learning Commission. Parents were notified in mid-December and have since had to seek alternative care arrangements. Officials stated that the sector is on notice and further action will be taken against centres failing to ensure children's safety.

An unassuming childcare centre in Western Sydney shut down in a government crackdown. It came to us as a shock. Sanya Stevanchovic is in disbelief. Her daughter and son have attended Fun2Learn in Rose Hill for years and says there's never been any sign of danger. We have only had positive experiences and we would really trust nobody else with the care of our two children. There was no serious incident at the facility. Instead, persistent failures and repeated breaches, 41 since 2023, including an emergency exit being padlocked shut, unlabelled bottles of chemicals being stored in the children's bathrooms, poor health, hygiene and safe food practices and not having accurate, up-to-date medical information for children, including no plans for asthma and anaphylaxis. We have a responsibility to ensure that parents have confidence when they drop their children at a childcare centre that that childcare centre has been assessed to be at safety. The facility was visited 18 times in 12 years by department officials. It's the first to shut under new powers granted to the Early Learning Commission. This shouldn't come as a shock for the centre when they have failed to meet the standards for more than 12 years. Families were told of this centre's closure back in mid-December. 37 children attended here, their parents forced to find alternative care arrangements. Are our children going to be well looked after as they were at Fun2Learn? Are they going to be taken care of well as they were at Fun2Learn? That's what we now have to wait and see. The childcare sector is on notice. The state's Early Learning Commission says it won't hesitate to take action against providers failing to keep kids safe. John Paul Gonzo, 10 News.
