Major storms sweeping through the West Coast are causing widespread disruptions to holiday travel across the United States. Over 1,700 flight delays have been reported, with major airports in Dallas, Seattle, Atlanta, and Los Angeles experiencing the most significant issues. The Federal Aviation Administration is closely monitoring conditions, especially in cities from Seattle to San Diego and Las Vegas, as well as in the Northeast due to low cloud ceilings.

On the roads, heavy rain and high winds are complicating travel, particularly in California and Southern California where conditions are expected to be especially severe. The busiest travel day is anticipated to occur after Christmas, during the weekend between Christmas and New Year's, with travelers advised to remain cautious amid ongoing hazardous weather.

The flash floods on the West Coast are also snarling holiday travel. FlightAware.com says there have been more than 1,700 flight delays in the U.S. so far today. This is really the last minute push to beat Santa home for Christmas. For drivers in the West, it's going to be rain that's going to be the complicating factor as a significant storm is moving through California. For flyers, though, it's actually the wind that could be the most disruptive today. The FAA watching for delays and disruptions from Seattle to San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, even Las Vegas, also watching for the potential of delays, particularly just because of the low ceilings around the airports in the New York City area up north to Boston. We are expecting the busiest day of the travel season, though, to actually come after Christmas that weekend between Christmas and New Year's. The Sunday likely to be the busiest at the airport, steady on the roads as well as folks are making their way today watching that rain, which at times, particularly in Southern California, could be extremely heavy, mixing with high winds, could make for challenging conditions.
