Forecasts indicate that Texas and the southern Plains are set to experience their warmest Christmas on record. A large upper high over Louisiana is pushing heat from the Southwest into the region, causing temperatures in cities like Dallas to approach 80 degrees, a level more common in early May. 

Oklahoma City and Wichita are expected to break or come close to breaking previous Christmas Day temperature records. Kansas City may also see near-record warmth, depending on the position of a warm front. The unusually high temperatures mean that a white Christmas is unlikely for Texas, the southern Plains, and the Mid-South.

It'll be the warmest Christmas on record across Texas and the Southern Plains. All right. Why? Why is that happening? Big upper high. That's going to be across Louisiana. What that's going to do is it's going to take all the heat that was in the Southwest and ram it up into the Southern Plains states. Now, let's go from south to north. Let's take you in toward Dallas here, where I think temperatures are going to approach 80 degrees. Just to give you an idea of how warm that is, this is typical warmth that you would see in early May. So we're going to get awfully close to the records here. Where I do think we're going to shatter Christmas Day records are going to be once you get a little farther north. In cities like Oklahoma City, we're going to shatter the record. This should easily be the warmest Christmas on record. Let's go up I-35, Wichita, Kansas. Same story here. You're in the warmth. Now, one city where it's going to be a little close, you may be top five, but I could see breaking the record is Kansas City. There's going to be a warm front setting up right near Kansas City. Now, if you're south of that warm front, you can easily be around 70 degrees. If you're north of the warm front, it may be a little closer to 60 degrees, which wouldn't be a record, but it'll still be quite warm. So if you're dreaming of a white Christmas, don't go into Texas, the Southern Plains or the Mid-South on Christmas Day.
