It's a chaotic day of voting that has come to an end. The polls for Uganda's presidential election closed after voting had finished across the country at 6pm local time on Thursday. For many, casting their ballots was a fight against technical problems, notably malfunctioning of biometric machines meant to verify voters' identities. Me as a voter, I'm frustrated because I came here to vote but now I think I'm losing confidence in voting because I found that the machines are not working and they assure us that no one will vote without passing through the biometric. They are not in operation, they are non-functional. That was wastage of taxpayers' money. We didn't use it, we used the register, national ID and these slips they gave us. We agreed upon it, the sunshine was heavy on us, we agreed and we moved on. And since we know each other, it's a village, we moved on. Despite the problems and delays resulting from the technical issues, the voting process itself remained peaceful. A heavy police presence during the day signalled the authorities' willingness to prevent anti-regime protests. Official results are expected to be released by Saturday afternoon.
