Further south, three fishermen were reported missing after their boat was swept away by strong waves. Weather services warned of heavy flooding in low-lying areas and possible landslides as the entire region was lashed with fierce winds and torrential rain. People here are aware of the threat of storm Kalmegi. But hopefully Da Nang won't be hit as hard as nearby provinces that are in the center of the storm's path. The local people here are worried, so they haven't let their guard down. And all the boats here are ready to brace the storm. Meanwhile, the storm has wreaked havoc, uprooting trees, tearing off roofs, and shattering glass. Vietnam was also forced to shut down six airports, with hundreds of flights affected. Typhoon Kalmegi is an unusually strong storm for this time of year in the region. Vietnam was already battling serious floods after heavy rains in recent weeks. The government said more than 260,000 soldiers are on standby to help with storm relief.
