A clash occurred between ICE agents and protesters outside a facility near Chicago. The situation escalated when protesters attempted to block vehicles, leading ICE agents to deploy pepper balls, rubber bullets, and smoke grenades. At least two protesters were taken into custody by ICE agents. Chemical agents, believed to be tear gas, were also used to disperse the crowd. An independent photographer present at the scene was affected by the smoke but received assistance from medics. There is no current information on whether the detained protesters will face charges.

Well look at this video to our monitor some breaking news at this hour a chaotic clash this involves ICE agents you're seeing here and protesters just outside of Chicago CBS News Chicago had one of the first crews on the scene in the middle of all of this Marissa Perlman is out that outside that facility right now with an update the protesters have been out here since about 5 this morning now the crowd has grown significantly smaller but in the past few minutes or so we have seen some of these protesters start to approach the gates that's where those ICE agents are inside there one of those protesters ringing the bell consistently here now at this point we know at least two people have been taken into custody by those ICE agents they were both protesters ICE agents have been on the roof of the building here and at one point fired pepper balls rubber bullets and smoke grenades at the crowd below this happened after protesters were trying to block a car that one of their protest fellow protesters was taken away in and that is when things really started to turn aggressive here this morning some sort of chemical agent we believe to be tear gas was deployed into that same crowd we want to show you now take a look at how the morning progressed here Oh it's gone because we just sprayed chemical agents again okay so right now this is what we have been seeing this has been one of the tensest moment actually going to move away from the camera now that the smoke is now impacting my eyes but we I'm back I'm back near the vehicle Dana I'm near the vehicle I have a mask on I'm okay so basically every time that people are pulling out they are blocking the vehicles from getting in and out at this point what we saw this time was the agents on top of the roof they started Lou you need to get something on your eyes so you heard our Darius Johnson and Luke Kleinberg reporting in the middle of all of that smoke this morning you saw that smoke go off and you may have noticed that protester who was seen lying on the ground at the end of that video that at the end of that video we spoke with her just a few minutes ago she is an independent photographer here in Chicago who says she showed up here to kind of document the potential for any arrests she is okay she got help from some of the medics that were here on the scene now at this point there is no word on when or if those two protesters will be released or if they're facing any charges that's something we're going to be following up very closely with as we head into the afternoon hours here for now we'll send it back to you we're live in Broadview I'm Marissa Curlman CBS News Chicago
