The sanctions also extend to financial networks allegedly involved in laundering proceeds from Iranian oil sales, which reportedly funnel billions of dollars annually.

The announcement follows a statement from U.S. President Donald Trump regarding a halt to planned executions in Iran. According to the NGO Iran Human Rights, nearly 3,500 people have been killed in the crackdown on demonstrations by Iranian security forces.

According to Norway-based NGO Iran Human Rights, the security force crackdown on demonstrations has killed almost 3,500 people.
