A suspect in the fatal shooting of Andriy Parubiy, former speaker of the Ukrainian parliament has been detained, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said as more details emerged from the investigation.

Ukrainian officials have detained a suspect in the fatal shooting of Andriy Parubiy, a prominent politician and former speaker of parliament. Authorities have stated that there is operational information suggesting possible involvement of Russian special services in organizing the murder. 

Parubiy was shot dead in Lviv, with police reporting he was shot eight times and seven shell casings were found at the scene. The investigation is ongoing, including inquiries into whether Parubiy had received threats before his death.

Ukrainian authorities on Monday announced that a suspect in the fatal shooting of prominent politician and former Speaker of Parliament Andriy Parubiy has been detained, claiming a possible Russian involvement. According to Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky, the 52-year-old suspect has given an initial testimony and an investigation is currently underway, while the head of Ukraine's security service in the Lviv region said, quote, there is operational information indicating the possible involvement of the Russian Federation of Special Services in organizing the murder, end of quote. Parubiy, a Ukrainian politician who previously served as the parliament speaker, was shot dead in Lviv on Saturday. During a press briefing in Lviv, police officials said that Parubiy was shot eight times with a short-barreled firearm. Seven shelled casings were later found at the crime scene. Law enforcement authorities said they are investigating whether Parubiy received threats before his death.
