Ugandan opposition leader Bobi Wine reported on social media that he was assaulted by security forces during a campaign event in northern Uganda. He stated that he was struck in the face with a cane and that several aides and supporters were also beaten, with some requiring hospitalization.

A military spokesperson accused Wine and his followers of forming an illegal procession and campaigning beyond the permitted hours. Police did not provide a comment regarding the incident. The upcoming election will be Wine's second attempt to unseat President Yoweri Museveni, who is seeking a seventh term.

The country's most prominent opposition candidate, Bobi Wine, said in a series of posts on social network X over the weekend that he was beaten up by security forces while campaigning in the north of the country. Wine said that he was hit in the face with a cane and that his aides and supporters were also beaten. Some people at the scene reportedly had to be hospitalised after being attacked. A military spokesperson accused the pop star-turned-politician and his followers of having formed an illegal procession and campaigning beyond the prescribed time. Police did however not comment on the incident. The upcoming election is the second time that Bobi Wine will challenge current president Yoweri Museveni, who at 81 years old is seeking a seventh term as leader of the country.
