Police are investigating a suspected arson attack after two vehicles parked outside a Granville home erupted into flames. Security footage shows two individuals carrying jerry cans fleeing the scene.

Two vehicles were set alight outside a family home in Granville, causing significant damage and prompting a large emergency response. The fire, which occurred while children were sleeping inside the house, was allegedly started by two individuals carrying jerrycans who were seen moving along Wallace Street before igniting the blaze and fleeing the scene.

Firefighters managed to prevent the flames from spreading to the house, which only suffered minor heat damage to its windows. Police are currently investigating the incident, searching for evidence to identify the perpetrators, while the affected family begins the cleanup process.

Two vehicles torched outside Granville family home

Echoing through Granville not long before sunrise, twin fires outside a family home. The flames chewed through a car parked on the street and ripped through a ute, dangerously close to the house where children were sleeping inside. Kind of like half awake, half asleep, but I heard this really big bang, I heard my uncle scream like there's a fire. Like a loud boom, boom, boom, sound every, like whoa, move back, move back. It was all the work of fire bugs. The pair arrived armed with jerrycans and walked back and forth along Wallace Street over a 10 minute period before finally they lit the blaze and ran. Dialed triple zero, you know, for safety and instantly the fire brigades came. It took six fire trucks and 22 firefighters to get a hold of the blaze. Fire was starting to push towards the home, but firefighters were able to move in and then cut that fire off. The home has only suffered some thermal cracking on the windows. That's from the radiant heat, but as you can see, both of these cars have been destroyed. Former 21 district rapper Hammer Mpapalangi lives at the home and today surveyed the damage left behind by the early morning chaos. Police are now sifting through the charred remains, searching for any trace the arsonist may have left behind. The family, meanwhile, facing a mammoth cleanup out the front of their home. They woke up very stressed. Police still trying to work out who is behind it all and why. Hannah Taylor, 10 News.
