The idea floated by Trump's team involves freezing the conflict along the current front line and potentially keeping Ukraine out of NATO. This proposal has not been detailed further, and there has been no clear strategy shared with the public. Despite the lack of clarity, Russian President Vladimir Putin has praised Trump for his courage and expressed willingness to discuss the conflict with a new administration in the U.S.

On the ground in Kiev, the effects of the war remain evident, with memorials growing for the more than 40,000 Ukrainian soldiers who have lost their lives. Back in Kiev a memorial for the more than 40,000 Ukrainian soldiers killed continues to grow. Irina Polischuk works as a volunteer running supplies to the front. She will soon head to Kursk where Ukraine is fighting to hold Russian territory which it could hope to use as a bargaining chip. We hope that the situation will change for the better, she said. We want to believe in it but we can't influence the situation at that high level. Ukraine's president is praising Trump and his so-called peace through strength approach. While Trump has met with Volodymyr Zelensky recently in the past he's criticized him and the tens of billions of dollars in U.S. aid given to Ukraine which many Republicans want to see stopped.
