President Trump has initiated a series of executive orders focusing on immigration, shortly after assuming his second term as president. The administration has shut down an application previously used by asylum seekers to secure appointments with immigration officials, impacting roughly 30,000 migrants, including Margulies Tinoco from Colombia. As Trump aims to oversee what he claims to be the largest deportation effort in U.S. history, there are reports of plans to intensify operations for arresting unauthorized immigrants in major cities like Chicago.

A sense of fear has engulfed immigrant communities, with individuals like Yesenia Ramirez, who has lived in the U.S. for two decades without documentation, expressing anxiety over potential raids and deportations. Additionally, Trump has signed orders to keep asylum seekers in Mexico during immigration hearings, classified drug cartels as terrorist organizations, and promised to deploy troops to the southern border. The last month recorded encounters with around 96,000 foreign nationals at the southern border, a significant drop from over 300,000 earlier in 2023.

About 30,000 migrants were waiting to enter through the app. Sources tell CBS News Trump is also planning to ramp up operations to arrest unauthorized immigrants across major U.S. cities this week, as he pledges to oversee the largest deportation effort in U.S. history. Less than 24 hours into his second term, Trump also signed orders to keep asylum seekers in Mexico while awaiting immigration hearings, labeled drug cartels as terrorist organizations, and promised to send troops to the southern border. Last month, Border Patrol encountered around 96,000 foreign nationals at the southern border, down from more than 300,000 in 2023.

About 200 U.S. troops have begun arriving in Israel to set up a coordination center aimed at facilitating the flow of humanitarian aid, as well as logistical and security assistance into Gaza. They are not expected to enter the territory.
