Details about the potential government stake are still under discussion, and both Intel and the White House have declined to confirm any deal, with officials cautioning that such discussions remain speculative until officially announced.

It would mark another state intervention by U.S. President Donald Trump in an industry seen as vital to national security. Trump has already pushed for multi-billion dollar government stakes in semiconductors and rare earths. That's included a pay-for-play deal with Nvidia, where he'd allow that company to sell its H20 chips to China, so long as the U.S. government gets a 15 percent cut of advanced chip sales to the country. It's not unusual for the U.S. to take a stake in a company, but those have usually needed financial help. While Intel's stock market value has fallen and it has lost its pole position in tech, its revenue is stable at $50 billion a year. However, Intel warned last month that it may have to get out of the chip-making business if it doesn't land external customers to make chips in its factories. Bloomberg said details of any Intel stake in price are still being discussed. The report came after a meeting this week between Trump and Intel CEO Li Pu Tan. They met days after Trump publicly demanded that Tan resign over his investment in Chinese tech companies, some of which are linked to China's military. Intel declined to comment on the Bloomberg report, but it did say it was deeply committed to supporting Trump's efforts to strengthen U.S. tech and manufacturing leadership. White House spokesman Kush Desai said, quote, "...discussion about hypothetical deals should be regarded as speculation unless officially announced by the administration."
