President Donald Trump has unveiled new agreements with pharmaceutical companies Eli Lilly and Novo Nordisk aimed at reducing the cost of weight loss drugs, such as Ozempic and Wegovy, for eligible Americans. The initiative will lower monthly costs to as little as $245, compared to the current average of nearly $1,500, and will offer a $50 copay for some Medicare recipients, though only 10% of beneficiaries are currently eligible.

The new pricing is expected to take effect in May 2026, with a direct-to-consumer option available for $350 per month through a forthcoming federal platform called Trump Rx. In return, the drug companies will benefit from an expanded patient pool, tariff certainty, and priority FDA review. The announcement event was briefly interrupted when a company representative fainted, but the individual is reported to be in good condition.

I also want to go to the White House, where moments ago, President Donald Trump announced a slim down, if you will, in the prices that you pay for weight loss drugs. So how does the president say he will do it? He says it's through partnerships with companies like Eli Lilly and Novo Nordisk. For the most eligible of you out there, the cost could be under just under 250 bucks a month. Now, let's contrast that with what a lot of Americans are paying, which is almost fifteen hundred dollars a month. So Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. was there to speak about the plan. Have a listen. It is the number one cost of all drugs. This is the biggest drug in our country. That's why this is the most important of all the MFN announcements we've made. This is going to have the biggest impact on the American people. All Americans, even those who are not on Medicaid and Medicare, are going to be able to get the same price for their drugs, for their GLP drugs. This happened because... All right. There you have it. So let's go live to the White House and CBS News White House reporter Aaron Navarro. So what more can you tell us about the details in this deal? Yeah, Reid, this deal with the drug makers Eli Lilly and Novo Nordisk will reduce the price for weight loss drugs from Ozempic to Wigovi to as low as 245 dollars a month, as you mentioned. One senior administration official said it is one ninth of the current listing price. And for those under Medicare, it could be reduced to a 50 dollar copay for these drugs. Though it's important to note, as of now, only 10 percent of Medicare beneficiaries are eligible. And we could start to see these lower prices come May 2026, so still a couple months before we see some of the lower prices. There will also be a kind of direct-to-consumer route for those looking to pay in cash for these drugs for about 350 dollars through a platform that is not officially launched but will be called Trump Rx and run by this administration and by the federal government. In return, administration officials say these companies say they will benefit from a new pool of patients, an expanded pool, say they will have, quote, certainty around tariffs from this president and the administration, and that they will be eligible for priority review when it comes to drugs by the Food and Drugs Administration. One thing to note, though, about this presser, it ended a bit abruptly because an official fainted, and the press were then escorted out of the room as I was coming out here. It seemed that press were lining up to potentially go back in. As of now, it's not known who exactly that man was that fainted. A statement from the White House read, quote, during this announcement, a representative with one of the companies fainted. The White House Medical Unit jumped to action, and the gentleman is OK. A spokesperson from Novo Nordisk told me that it was just their CEO, Mike Dostar, and their U.S. operations executive, Dave Moore, who were in the room, and that it is not one of their officials that fainted. But again, we're looking to see exactly who it was. But as of now, what we're hearing is that the gentleman who fainted is OK. Yeah, this is the second fainting we have seen at the White House.
