Although there have only been five named storms in the Atlantic so far, the peak of hurricane season is still ahead. AccuWeather meteorologists are closely monitoring conditions for potential tropical storm development in the coming weeks.

The Atlantic hurricane season continues to progress, with several named storms already recorded. Currently, meteorologists are tracking two tropical waves: one that has just moved off the coast of Africa and another still over the continent. Both systems are considered to have a low risk of developing into tropical storms in the near term. 

Additionally, a weather system in the Gulf of Mexico is bringing increased rainfall to southern Texas, though it lacks the circulation needed for tropical development. Atmospheric conditions, including dry air and some wind shear, are expected to limit the potential for significant storm formation from these tropical waves in the coming days.

Tropical storm development potential in the Atlantic

Andrea, Barry, Chantal, Dexter, now Aaron. That's the list so far. Of course, we still have more names to go and we're not even ultimately halfway through the season, not by the curve standards. If you take a look at it, oh, we're right about here. So you can see we're on the uphill slide as far as named storms. We're also on the uphill slide too, as far as hurricanes. And it's a pretty quick rise through the latter half of August to the peak of hurricane season, September 10th is what we classify as the peak of hurricane season. So here we go, we look out into the Atlantic beyond Aaron and we are tracking two tropical waves. One has just pushed off the coast of Africa, still low risk here for development. The other one is still over Africa. So we do have that low threat as well. So we're tracking those two tropical waves, plus something a little closer to home. Look at that, there in the Gulf, you'll find a lot of rainfall just offshore of Texas. No real circulation to this, but this is gonna march its way inland here. So we will have a little bit of wet weather to come with this through Southern Texas today. By tonight, it just becomes a few sprinkles, maybe some drizzle tomorrow morning and some extra clouds. Taking a look elsewhere though, again in the Atlantic, those two tropical waves are out here and they follow kind of a similar path to Aaron, which is much further to the West. What happens though is we do have some shear, but not a lot as these tropical waves move through. So does that mean they're gonna take off? Well, the other thing that we've found is Aaron actually has kicked up some more dry air into the backside and we might even see some more of that filter in from the North. So hopefully as that tropical wave there pushes off of Africa, there'll be enough dry air to impede any significant development in the upcoming days. And luckily, if we're lucky, that would hold for the falling tropical wave that is still over the continent of Africa at this time.
