The court was told that Marsuk was promised methamphetamine in exchange for sex, but a dispute arose when the drugs were not provided. Marsuk's body was later found in Fremantle Harbour with multiple stab wounds. The prosecution alleges Mirza attempted to cover up the crime, while the defence claims he acted in self-defence after Marsuk became aggressive. Mirza has pleaded not guilty to murder but admitted to destroying evidence and interfering with a corpse. The trial is ongoing.

Trial begins of man who brutally murdered Perth woman

A young woman brutally stabbed to death, allegedly at the hands of Mohamed Abdur Rahman Mirza, who's on trial for murdering Helen Marsuk in his Gosnell's home in December 2022. The court heard he'd promised her a hit of methamphetamine in exchange for sex via the Telegram messaging app, but a fight ensued when he failed to produce the drugs. Ms Marsuk's body was found several days later in Fremantle Harbour with 16 stab wounds, so severe any of them could have been fatal. Prosecutor Katrin Robinson told the court Mr Mirza portrayed himself as the victim during his arrest, initially telling police a drug dealer had killed the 25-year-old in his home, before later changing his story that Ms Marsuk pulled a knife on him first. Defence lawyer Simon Watters argued his client had acted in self-defence because Ms Marsuk became aggressive and upset, telling the court, Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. She was furious she wasn't going to get the meth she craved. The prosecution alleges the days after her death Mr Mirza had locked the body in a bathroom while he drank with a friend in the home and then went clubbing, also taking a business class before dumping her body in shallow waters at the port three nights later. Ms Robinson said he told police it was so she wouldn't be eaten by sharks and that he'd tried to be as respectful of her body as he could so she could rest in peace. Mr Mirza pleaded not guilty to the murder charge in March, but guilty to willfully destroying evidence and interfering with a corpse. The trial continues. Jessica Hayes, 10 News.
