The court hearing is expected to conclude soon, but a decision on the appeal will take longer, with Mokbel likely to remain on bail during the process.

The 60-year-old was granted bail in April, partly because appeal judges found his chances of winning are strong. He's served nearly 18 years of a 26-year sentence. His freedom is dependent on around 30 strict bail conditions and a $1 million surety needed to ensure he doesn't skip the country, something he did back in 2006 when he fled to Greece while on bail. He's appealing, claiming his convictions were a miscarriage of justice because his long-time lawyer Nicola Gobbo was working as a police informant and she illegally gathered evidence against him. Preliminary findings ahead of today's hearing found Gobbo and four Victoria police officers formed a joint criminal enterprise. Prosecutors are appealing that finding and several others. Mr Mockbell is also appealing parts of the preliminary findings alongside his main appeal to overturn his drug sentence. Tony Mockbell won't learn if he's been successful this week. The hearing is scheduled to be finished by Friday, but a decision will take longer. It's expected his bail will be renewed each day, leaving him to see out the appeal far from the prison walls that have confined him for almost 18 years. Rory Campbell, 10 News.
